FIRST CONTACT: If humans come face-to-face with aliens THIS could be how we communicate | Science | News
As scientists seem to edge closer to discovering life elsewhere in the cosmos, experts have begun estimating what is the best way to communicate with them.
A language on another planet will likely be unfathomable to humans, so experts are turning to what could be a universal language: maths.
Carl DeVito, from the University of Arizona in Tucson, believes that maths could be the key to communicating with an extra-terrestrial race – if humans ever encounter them.
He says that a language based on universal scientific beliefs will allow humans and aliens to interact.
Mr DeVito told Space.com: “Maybe extraterrestrial intelligence will have similar ideas and thereby make themselves known to us.”
However, he goes on to say that aliens may have different ideas to us.
He said: “The mathematics of motion is differential calculus. Can we assume that an alien race shares this with us?
