Retiring general manager of KUER John Greene recalls transition to digital age

John Greene initially came to Utah to study for a graduate degree in social work. When that career wasn’t paying off, he went back to his roots, or rather to his student days, at KRCL Radio.

Greene began his broadcasting career in 1980 as a student volunteer for KRCL, a nonprofit public radio station that broadcasts from Salt Lake City and Park City. He later became KRCL’s general manager, and after a bit of traveling flew to Salt Lake City to stay as the general manager of KUER.

Now, after over 30 years, Greene has retired from his position as the general manager of KUER. Greene’s retirement was announced in January, and Maria O’Mara, the University of Utah’s communications director, has taken his place and started on Feb. 15, according to information from KUER.
